I help writers like you bring out the best in your writing.
Who I am
Hello, I’m Lu Sexton. I’m a freelance editor and writing coach. I’ve been working with writers like you since 2010 and I love it. My mission is to help you bring out the best in your writing and get you one step closer to being published.
Why I’m different
As both an editor and coach I can offer a combination of hands-on editing, face-to-face workshops and personalised exercises to help you hone your craft and finish your book.
I know that sending work to an editor or coach can be a bit daunting, but I promise I’m not going to rap you over the knuckles with the grammar stick. I’m here to help, not to ‘correct’.
Just like you, I care deeply about your book. I want your readers to have the best experience they can. I also care about your development as a writer. If you’re a rookie, I’ll gently guide you; if you are experienced, I’ll give you challenges to extend yourself and take your writing to the next level.
I believe there’s no one-size-fits-all editing or coaching solution. Every writer has different needs (and different budgets). That’s why I create individual packages for each writer I work with.
I set realistic deadlines and stick to them (I haven’t missed one yet). I quote costs up front so there’s no surprises.
I am an Accredited Editor with the Institute of Professional Editors accreditation scheme, Australia’s only professional accreditation standard for editors.
- Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing, RMIT 2012
- Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) Accreditation 2014
I live and work on Dja Dja Wurrung country (Daylesford, Victoria).
Here’s what my clients say about me. To read more feedback, head to my testimonials page.
Lu has been incredible, her ability to help my voice and give me the guidance and confidence to tell my story has been more than I asked of her. I highly recommend contacting her, no matter what stage you’re at, and you won’t be disappointed. I can’t wait until we can work together again…after I implement some her insight and rework a few more chapters.

It’s been an insightful and joyous experience working with Lu. I’ve eagerly awaited her feedback and suggestions, her restructuring advice and her kickstarting copy in my ‘voice’ that got me going further and faster on my chapters. She’s taken my ideas, information and repetitions and brought clarity, focus and an artful arc to them. Many thanks. I’d rate her
