This week I am in love with …

… an opening line and a bass  line

The day after I’m arrested my father invites me to lunch.

This first line of the late Christopher Coe’s story ‘Gentleman can wash their hands in the gents’ sets up so much with so little. I was hooked. And the rest of the story lives up to its promise.

If you’re hooked too, you’ll have to get your hands on The New Penguin Book of Gay Short Stories.  Here’s a link to an online reading portal type thingy that could take you there right this very minute.

But before you head off, crank this up in your headphones or speakers and tune into Tina Weymouth’s perfectly paired back and deceptively simple funk bass line. She really drives this song. Brilliant. Another great hook.
